Yesterday, I had the great honor of telling Prokofiev’s classic “Peter and the Wolf” alongside the incredible Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. Technology threw us a curveball so I wasn’t able to share these illustrations but, the show must go on, and on it went! Until we meet again, Peter! 🐺

In 2020, I began work with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra on a new Young People’s Concert with an around-the-world spy theme. 🕵️ We all know what happened that year. We adapted and wove together the story in a virtual format and were still able to bring the story and music to students via video.

Five years later, “Where in the World is the OPO?” is finally finding its place on stage before a live audience! Tomorrow morning begins a full run of Young People’s Concerts wherein over 68,000 students across central Florida will experience the amazing sights and sounds of the orchestra. 🎻

Mushy, gushy post to come later but as always, a huge thank you to @amyeconrod and @chris.confessore , longtime partners in crime in one of my favorite projects to work on every year. @orlandophilorch 🎼 🥹 #writer #illustrator #youngpeoplesconcerts #playwright

Every day, we drop our son off at school and feel powerless. I wonder if I will feel this deep, dark, sick feeling for the next near two decades that my children are in school.

There was another school shooting at Evergreen High School yesterday but as your Facebook feed may tell you, the major conversation right now is centered around the Utah Valley University shooting.

Don’t speak ill of the dead.’ But if that person spent their life dismissing other people’s pain, mocking it, minimizing it, even actively contributing to it, it makes sense that your empathy tank might run dry. It doesn’t mean you’re celebrating, it doesn’t mean you’re cold-hearted, it just means your compassion has limits.”

There are a lot of plates to spin these days. My son starts school for the first time on Monday and I am having all of the feelings.

Whenever I feel myself spiral on my pillow after an exhausting day, I like to think of something Glennon Doyle mentioned on her podcast: the beauty of the first sip of coffee. The quiet moment in the morning before the kids burst out of the bedroom and before the buzz of the outside world starts to brew, I get that first sip of coffee and all is perfect. Anyone else?

Wishing you all a cozy moment of peace amidst the chaos. ☕️

Today marks the completion of my husband's first week at his new job! Last week, he bid a bittersweet farewell to the amazing Charlotte Symphony Orchestra. On Monday, he said hello to his new role as Supervisor of Theatre Operations at Monroe's beautiful Dowd Center Theatre! I am so proud of all of his accomplishments, especially amidst our big move to NC from FL a few years ago. @dowdcentertheatre

Naturally, I had to draw this adorable theatre on our quaint Monroe main street. It has already found a home in his cool new office!

This Pride month, I have seen lots of ally posts. The outpouring of “I’m a safe person” shares has been such a warm and comforting reminder that there is a vast community of beautiful, welcoming, loving people out there.

I wanted to take a moment to flip the sentiment and thank the queer community for being MY safe space. You have kept me afloat my entire life. Saving me from middle school mean girls, scream-singing Britney with me, dress-up slumber parties, homespun music video collabs, midnight cuddles, pushing me to do the weird thing, quieting my self doubt, lovingly roasting my poor life choices (the Bump-it), reviving my creativity. I wouldn’t be me without you, my family. I love you so much! 🌈🏳️‍⚧️🩵

We finished "Pee-wee As Himself" last night. What a ride! Pee-wee has forever been a staple in our house- whether it was my childhood home where the Pee-wee's Playhouse VHS Box Set ran on repeat or my current home where we simultaneously amuse and perplex our children with the annual viewing of his Christmas special... Thank you for helping us all embrace our weird, Paul Reubens. ❤️

The Royal Majesty Makers were a fabulous group of talented performers at the Magic Kingdom who helped lucky passers by pull the sword from the stone and opened the park on the stage of Cinderella Castle.

When I was gifted my iPad and Apple Pencil (thank you, mom and dad!), I was delighted to draw one of my favorite makers o’ majesty. ❤️🥰

We still drink out of this mug that serves as a tribute to this charming piece of entertainment that brought joy to so many for years. Thanks for revealing the royal in you since once upon a time!
